Stay Up 'Til 4 In The Morning...

Hello! Hello! Hello!

I've been trying to do homework all night but got stuck on both of my iLabs, so I decided it's now time for a reality check and to feed the readers of our amazing blog some of Iowa's freshest and tastiest Asphalt.

First of all, I just want to thank you for taking the time to read anything that I wrote because it helps with the ratings. Second of all, do NOT steer away from this website before commenting on something Jack or I wrote because we get in trouble every time you do that. Support the blog!

Thanksgiving is just 4 days away! I'll be working (of course), but it's the same every year regardless of whether I'm there or not. My grandpa goes hunting for rabid turkeys to attempt to feed to us while we sit around the table in the house trying to think of any excuse that we can not to have to touch whatever he brings into the house with our mouths. Normally I like to be antisocial and sit upstairs and play my Nintendo DS, PSP, or even do homework on my laptop all the while counting ways to annoy my cousin, Beefy.

Next week is midterms. Yeah... let's not talk about it.

Here's some exciting news! Tomorrow (November 19th) is "Have A Bad Day Day". I expect all of your to reach for your potential on this one! A few good ideas to try are:

  1. Not wear underpants in public.
  2. Drive while intoxicated.
  3. Visit David Copperfield's private island.
  4. Be the head of a fan club that promised fans easy tickets.
  5. Post a video on youtube.com demanding that people leave Britney Spears alone.

Each of those three are sure-fire bets for a guaranteed train-wreck sort of day! I mean... except maybe number three, it depends what you're into and that's your decision. I'm kind of leaning towards number one, myself. I was also thinking about number five, but youtube's standards probably wouldn't allow me to insert a video with that sort of content.

That's all from me for tonight! Thanks to myself for writing such an amazing, first blog! You all have a pleasant today, and a horrible tomorrow!

Goodnight, everybody!

Paging Dr. Bush...

The rising cost of health care in this country and our president wants nothing more than to ensure that more of us end up bankrupt!
Michael Moore hit it on the head when he called it SICKO. That is exactly what our president is….a SICKO!!
Congress has approved 35billion dollars to give health care coverage to the millions of children whose parents can’t afford it. Sounds great huh? After all, when a child goes to the Emergency room with no coverage those of us with health insurance end up paying the bill anyway, right? Our premiums go up because the hospitals have to charge more for basic cares in order to absorb the costs of all the non-paying victims of our current health care system.
You can travel the halls of any major hospital in America and you will find dozens of children fighting for their lives. Many who may lose that struggle because they didn’t get to the doctor in time. If only they had, had health insurance they could have gotten treatment sooner.
What if it were YOUR CHILD?
Wouldn’t it be better to just raise our taxes and give everyone health care?
Well not according to Mr. George W. He thinks 5 billion dollars is enough! He doesn’t think that all children should have coverage. He claims that if we give health care to all children we will be ‘socializing’ health care.
Socializing health care? How is that a bad thing?
How is it a bad thing to be able to take your child to the doctor when they need it?
How is it a bad thing for companies to run more efficiently because no one is home sick?
How is it a bad thing for save lives with preventative medicine?
Canada has ‘socialized’ their health care system. You won’t hear anyone up there complaining! They still have the right to purchase private insurance if they want. Their insurance companies still make a profit.
Sure they might wait to get in to see a specialist, but if everyone has the right to go to the doctor we would have waiting lists too!
We don’t wait a few weeks to see a specialist. Could that be, because no one can afford to go! If you take the 15 or so million people in our country who don’t have health insurance and give them a place in line at the doctor I suppose that line will get long! HOW IS THAT A BAD THING??
Have we reduced ourselves to being a country of selfishness?
Do we all really only think of ourselves?
The uninsured can’t go to the doctors office because they can’t pay. So they wait. They wait til after 5pm and hit the Emergency rooms of the county hospitals, because they CAN’T TURN THEM AWAY!!
So instead of a $75.00 bill at the doctors office, they leave behind a $475.00 bill at the local ER.!! Do you think those bills go unpaid? YOU’RE WRONG!
If you don’t think the uninsured people of America affects you, THINK AGAIN! When your premiums go up, when your medicine skyrockets, when you’re local hospital can’t afford to keep specialists on staff IT WILL EFFECT YOU!!!
WE PAY THEM! YOU & ME and everyone else with insurance PAYS THOSE BILLS!
We pay them with higher premiums, higher prescription costs, higher co-pays, higher deductibles. WE PAY THEM!
When those families bankrupt who do you think picks up the tab? Do you really think those companies wipe the slate clean and call it a day? NOPE!
They raise their interest rates, they raise their purchase prices and lower their quality to make up for it. And guess who pays for that??
Wouldn’t it just be better for ALL of us to pay?
To pay a bit more taxes across the board than to deal with the rising costs of health insurance and prescription drugs??
Wouldn’t it be better to give health care to everyone than to pay more for less?
Don’t let the incompetence, stubbornness, and idiocy of our president take another child’s life. Don’t let this administration declare your child not worthy of health care.
Don’t let George W. Bush decide who lives and who dies.
Don’t let him decide what children deserve health care.
WHAT IF IT WERE YOUR CHILD?
DEMAND HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYONE!!
fillin' in the pot holes one by one on this ever winding road.......

Crack? IT'S EVERYWHERE!!

What does Eunice Louisiana, Atlanta Georgia, and Dallas Texas all have in common? Well its more than their southern roots, its more like their southern booties!
They all want to pass a law that forces baggy pant wearing youth to 'PAY UP OR PULL UP'!
A fine for showing off your Calvin Kleins or Joe Boxers? Perhaps this is merely another tactic to win the war on drugs? Afterall, CRACK does KILL!
Louisiana legislators have taken this to a whole new level. They actually have a bill in the house awaiting a vote! House Bill 1626 will make it unlawful for anyone to appear in public wearing pants below the waist "..thereby exposing his skin or intimate clothing."
Intimate clothing? How many guys do you know that wear 'intimate clothing'? Perhaps this is just an underhanded way to discriminate against the cross-dresser? hmmmm
Or is it merely a way to get cheap labor? The bill will call for the violator to submit to 3 eight hour days of community service and pay a $175.00 fine!
Well I for one hope this law isn't just for the young hip hoppers, imagine how useful this bill will actually be when you get free labor from all those PLUMBERS!!!
What a great way to rebuild New Orleans! and all those fines...oooo just think! They will certainly collect more money than FEMA and much less time!
We have been staring at the ass cracks of blue collar workers for centuries and no law has ever been considered for the disgust they display, now that teenagers are annoying their parents with this 'fashion statement' people actually want to create a law to prevent it!
COME ON PEOPLE GET OVER IT!!! No law ever went to the legislator over hot pants, short-shorts, spandex or halter tops, showing off your boxers shouldn't be any different.
With all the men and women dying in foreign countries for reasons most of us can't even recall, leaving children without parents, with all the gang violence running rampant in the streets of inner cities and the children dying from diseases that have no cures and no supported research, and all the children who have no health care coverage, it amazes me how our law makers will collect our tax dollars and pay themselves for a job well done after spending our time, our money on something so insane as the clothing our children wear!
ahhhh life on the winding road :)

Hillary for President??

My 13 year old daughter and I were ‘debating’ yet again about the war in Iraq while watching the Presidents ‘plan’ on television. I have no idea how I ended up with a right wing future republican in my genetic pool, but there she is in all her youthful innocence consistently defending the President and his horrific actions.
She tells me that ‘he is doing the best he can, everyone makes mistakes’.
“Well while that may be true it doesn’t mean he is right” is what I retaliate with.
She then goes on to tell me that ‘we have to send more troops to Iraq; we have to help other countries, thats our job. If we don’t help them they will come here and hurt us’…I think for a moment as I am wondering where this child came from….were the pod people at my door in the middle of the night and I didn’t hear them?...was she switched at birth? And where the heck is she getting her information?
I try over and over to remind of her all of the ‘facts’ in this case, like that we had no reason at the time to invade Iraq, we still haven’t found Bin Laden and he was the reason we went over there in the first place, that Sadam was a very bad man but he didn’t blow up the towers in New York., there were NO weapons of mass destruction…ect..ect..ect…
The debate went on for what seemed like forever and then we were interrupted by the television and the mention of Hillary Clintons name for the presidency.
My 13 year old looked at me and said…”Now if we had a woman president mom we would still be at war, it wouldn’t matter, its not just George W’s fault.” To which I calmly and truthfully stated, “No, I doubt that we would” She was curious now, and obviously confused, so I continued. “You see that’s the difference between men and women. A woman will talk a situation to death before she will beat you up to prove her point!”
My daughter giggled, she had to agree, that yeah women are better talkers than men.
I went on to explain to her that a while women are great talkers and debaters, if you mess with a woman’s children she will attack fiercely and quickly, she wouldn’t have taken months to talk about it first. We would have attacked the same day those towers fell, and she would have stayed focused on our mission of finding Al-Qaeda. She would have wanted great proof that those weapons existed before she would have put our military at further risk. She would not have been engaging us in wars of distraction.
A woman would have cared for her children here at home before sending thousands of jobs overseas, a woman would never treat her children differently even if they were gay, a woman would make sure other women were able to take their children to the doctor, a woman would lead her children away from harm, and not hesitate to talk to other world leaders about nuclear policies. A woman would not use threats of violence to get her way.
So I still have some what of a right winger in my mists, and I encourage her to have her own opinions, though I make more of an effort to ensure she has the facts.
And I am not saying Hillary Clinton is the best choice for President, I don’t know that yet, the campaigning has just begun…but I do know that I will be listening.

Crossing the Line....

When does being a parent cross the line? I'll tell you. It crosses the line when a parent has the legal right to permanently mame and disfigure their own child in the name of LOVE!
Wonder what it is I am talking about.....well if you haven't had the news on lately or surfed the mass information on the world wide web then I invite you to visit this site....but beware and take caution...it will not only cause your blood to boil but will no doubt force a nausea to rise up that you have never known.
http://ashleytreatment.spaces.live.com/blog and don't forget to read the 'comments' section...there you will find an entire group of like minded idiotic selfish bastards who have not only NEVER walked in the shoes of a parent of a disabled child but many of whom have never even had a child!
This family repeatedly makes contradictions in their lengthy statement and so called defense of what they call the 'Ashley Treatment'.
The family clearly states this was NOT a difficult decision! They did it easily! and apparently Selfishly! there is no part of what they have done to this helpless, vulnerable child that will make her life easier!
How is living without breasts going to make her life better? pedophiles certainly do NOT care if she has them or not. How is having her growth permanently stunted going to make her life easier for her? According to her family she doesn't use it anyway.
How can so many read this and NOT see the contradictions in these parents statements. for instance they claim she 'expresses delight' when they 'visit' her in her room . Firs who 'visit's their child in their own home?? Mine is always wherever we are. YES MY CHILD IS DISABLED!! second, they are claiming she expresses emotion then go on to claim she lacks the cognitive ability to recognize dignity?
They also claim that Ashley's ONLY caregivers are "Mom and Dad the only additional care givers entrusted to Ashley’s care are her two Grandmothers, " and "We would never turn the care of Ashley over to strangers.." well if that is the case then why are they concerned with sexual abuse, or pregnancy???
They also claim she has not shown any cognitive development past a 3month old...yet also state and I quote "Ashley is alert and aware of her environment.." and " She constantly moves her arms and kicks her legs. Sometimes she seems to be watching TV intently. She loves music and often gets in celebration mode of vocalizing, kicking, and choreographing/conducting with her hands when she really likes a song (Andrea Boccelli is her favorite –.."
The contradictions are enormous and ridiculous.
As many of you know I have and do walk the shoes of a parent of a child with a disability. I am a single parent, and my child is in a wheelchair, does not speak, gets her period every month, and weighs well over a 100 lbs. I would certainly NOT make her disabilities worse by carving her up and overdosing her on estrogen to prevent her from growing!
There are options this family did NOT consider and that is unfortunate. Ashley has the option of living a full life with her body still in tact...but these people who claim to love her the most took that from her..they claim it wasn't selfish..but it so plainly is. For they have failed to make a realistic statement in defense of this so called 'treatment'. The claim the doctors never pinpointed Ashely's diagnosis yet call this carving up of their child a treatment...a treatment of what exactly??
I cannot believe we live in a country that allows a parent to butcher their own child and then prevent their bodies from growing into healthy average adults. They did not TREAT theri daughters condition they merely satisfied a pathetic need to be in control!! I cannot begin to describe the pain I am feeling ..and no this post is NOT a gut reaction. I have read their page several times in the last few days....and my reaction remains the same....They did NOT act out of love, They acted out of selfishness and fear.
I ask each of you reading this to please contact your local, state and federal representatives, tell them how appalled you are, let them know this kind of inhumane treatment cannot and will not be tolerated in our country!! We are the United States of America...Here we are ALL created EQUAL!!!
yet another pot hole in this winding road we call life.....
