Hillary for President??

My 13 year old daughter and I were ‘debating’ yet again about the war in Iraq while watching the Presidents ‘plan’ on television. I have no idea how I ended up with a right wing future republican in my genetic pool, but there she is in all her youthful innocence consistently defending the President and his horrific actions.
She tells me that ‘he is doing the best he can, everyone makes mistakes’.
“Well while that may be true it doesn’t mean he is right” is what I retaliate with.
She then goes on to tell me that ‘we have to send more troops to Iraq; we have to help other countries, thats our job. If we don’t help them they will come here and hurt us’…I think for a moment as I am wondering where this child came from….were the pod people at my door in the middle of the night and I didn’t hear them?...was she switched at birth? And where the heck is she getting her information?
I try over and over to remind of her all of the ‘facts’ in this case, like that we had no reason at the time to invade Iraq, we still haven’t found Bin Laden and he was the reason we went over there in the first place, that Sadam was a very bad man but he didn’t blow up the towers in New York., there were NO weapons of mass destruction…ect..ect..ect…
The debate went on for what seemed like forever and then we were interrupted by the television and the mention of Hillary Clintons name for the presidency.
My 13 year old looked at me and said…”Now if we had a woman president mom we would still be at war, it wouldn’t matter, its not just George W’s fault.” To which I calmly and truthfully stated, “No, I doubt that we would” She was curious now, and obviously confused, so I continued. “You see that’s the difference between men and women. A woman will talk a situation to death before she will beat you up to prove her point!”
My daughter giggled, she had to agree, that yeah women are better talkers than men.
I went on to explain to her that a while women are great talkers and debaters, if you mess with a woman’s children she will attack fiercely and quickly, she wouldn’t have taken months to talk about it first. We would have attacked the same day those towers fell, and she would have stayed focused on our mission of finding Al-Qaeda. She would have wanted great proof that those weapons existed before she would have put our military at further risk. She would not have been engaging us in wars of distraction.
A woman would have cared for her children here at home before sending thousands of jobs overseas, a woman would never treat her children differently even if they were gay, a woman would make sure other women were able to take their children to the doctor, a woman would lead her children away from harm, and not hesitate to talk to other world leaders about nuclear policies. A woman would not use threats of violence to get her way.
So I still have some what of a right winger in my mists, and I encourage her to have her own opinions, though I make more of an effort to ensure she has the facts.
And I am not saying Hillary Clinton is the best choice for President, I don’t know that yet, the campaigning has just begun…but I do know that I will be listening.
